The kirk session of Blackford was anciently known as Strageith and in the year 1200 it was granted to the Abbey of Inchaffrey. The church was later rebuilt in 1738 and in 1850 the present day church was erected. Within the parish the ancient collegiate church of Tullibardine was founded in 1446 by Sir David Murray of Tullibardine, the medieval church still stands largely unaltered today. In 1930, following the 1929 union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church, Blackford old Parish Church was united with the former United Free congregation of Blackford St Andrew's. After the union Blackford St Andrew's church was converted for use as a church hall and the old parish church remained in use for public worship. In 1984 Ardoch and Blackford formed a link. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Auchterarder and later of Perth. |
