The church of the Session of Aberlemno was dedicated by Bishop de Bernham, 21 August 1242 and at one point was appropriated to the Priory of Restennet. William Gardyne served as vicar from 2 December 1558. A stone in a wall of the aisle bears the initials 'J.B., E.M.' which represent James Beaton, grandson of the Cardinal, and Elizabeth Menzies, his wife. The parishes of Aberlemno and Aldbar were united early in the seventeenth century. During the twentieth century Aberlemno was linked with Oathlaw from 23 November 1958 - 1 January 1962, and with Guthrie and Rescobie from 17 June 1983. Aberlemno kirk session was united with Rescobie and Guthrie in 1983. |
