The church of Maryculter was dedicated to St Mary and belonged of old to the Knights of St John of Jerusalem. A new parish church was built in 1782. In 1972 Maryculter formed a link with Banchory-Devenick and in 1982 the parish of Maryculter and the parish of Cookney united together to form the session of Maryculter and Cookney. The linkage with Banchory-Devenick continued after the union. Maryculter Kirk Session sat within the Presbytery of Aberdeen and later of Kincardine and Deeside. In 2000 Maryculter and Cookney united with Banchory-Devenick as Banchory-Devenick and Maryculter/Cookney, but the Cookney church church was closed. Later in 2013 the Banchory-Devenick church was closed and Maryculter became the sole church for the united parish. On the 1 July 2015 the name was changed to Maryculter: Trinity Church of Scotland. |
