Edinburgh Morningside was declared a parish quoad sacra in 1838 by the General Assembly and the first services took place in Morningside Church on the 29th July 1938. A short time after the church of Morningside was built the Disruption of 1843 took place and as a result many of the congregation left Morningside Parish Church to join the Free Church. Morningside was later disjoined in 1864 from St Cuthbert's Parish by the Court of Teinds. Following the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church in 1929, Morningside Parish Church united with the former United Free Church congregation of Morningside High in 1960. After the union the session continued under the name of Morningside and the former Morningside High Church was sold to the Corporation of the City of Edinburgh. It was later converted into a Theatre. Edinburgh: Braid was later united with Edinburgh: Morningside in 1990 to form the session of Morningside Braid. The kirk session sits within the Presbytery of Edinburgh. |
