A Mission Station at Livingstonia, Malawi was established in 1894 by the Scottish doctor and clergyman Dr. Robert Laws, and it was during a meeting of the Livingstonia Mission Council a number of years later, on the 21st February 1920, that the Livingstonia Presbytery was first erected. The presbytery met regularly from 1920 to 1962. During a meeting on the 31st May 1961 the transference of all ministers from the Overseas Presbytery of Livingstonia to the United Church of Central Africa in Rhodesian was discussed. The following year in September 1962 the final meeting was held at which it was agreed to draw up a petition to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland requesting that the Presbytery be dissolved. An act was duly passed by the General Assembly in May 1963 dissolving and suppressing the Overseas Presbytery of Livingstonia. |
