The church of Slains was dedicated to St Ternan and prior to the reformation it had belonged to the Knights of the Order of the Temple. In around 1573, Slains was united with the old parish of Forvie, the remains of whose church, built in 1100, can still be seen where the village of Forvie once stood at Forvie Sands. Slains Parish church was rebuilt in 1599 and again in 1806. In 1973 Ellon was united with Slains and Forvie under the name of Ellon and Slains, and a further union followed in 1977 with Logie Buchan to form the session of Ellon. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Ellon, later of Aberdeen, and following the restructuring of the Presbyteries in 1976 it became part of the Presbytery of Gordon. |
