The church of Glass was dedicated to St Andrew and Ministry of the parish recorded from 1574 in the person of Alexander Leslie. There were two chapels built within the parish boundaries pre-reformation and the parish boundaries themselves, which were originally of small extent, have twice been enlarged by annexations. Once in the 13th or 14th century from Mortlach and again towards the close of the 17th century from Drumdelzie or Potterkirk. The parish church was built in 1772. Following the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church in 1929, Glass Parish Church united with the former United Free Church congregation of Glass South in 1933. After the union both churches remained in use for worship. Cairney was later united with Glass in 1965 under the name of Cairney-Glass and a further union followed in 1994 with Huntly to form the session of Huntly Cairnie Glass. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Strathbogie until by Act of Assembly, XXXI 1961, the Presbytery of Strathbogie and the Presbytery of Fordyce were united under the name of the Presbytery of Strathbogie and Fordyce. Following the restructuring of presbyteries in 1976, it became part of the Presbytery of Gordon. |
