The parish of Strathy was disjoined quoad sacra from the parish of Farr on the 4th February 1846. Following the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church in 1929, Strathy Parish Church united with the former United Free Church congregation of Strathy East in 1931. The former United Free Church had been located within the parish at Halladale and accordingly the new united congregation became known as Strathy and Halladale. The former church of Strathy East continued in use after 1931 but the old parish church ceased to used for worship and was later sold in 1972. Reay was linked with Strathy and Halladale in 1994. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Tongue until, by Act of Assembly, 1961, The Presbytery of Dornoch and the Presbytery of Tongue were united together under the name of the Presbytery of Sutherland. Following the restructuring of presbyteries in 1976, it became part of the Presbytery of Caithness. |
