The Island of Jamaica had been established as a British colony in 1665 and the earliest missionaries to the island made the journey there in the 18th century. In 1813 steps were taken to establish a Presbyterian place of worship in Jamaica and as a result the Church of St Andrew's was erected in Kingston in 1819. In 1832 it followed that the House of Assembly voted in favour of paying £500 annually towards payment of a stipend. |
