The old church of Lasswade, which was dedicated to St Edwin and built in the 13th century, prior to the reformation was united to the Collegiate Church of Restalrig however in 1592 an act of parliament dissolved the Deanery of Restalrig and erected Lasswade into a separate parish. A new church was later built within the parish in 1793. Following 1929, when the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church were joined together, Lasswade parish church, which had become known as Lasswade Old, was united with the former United Free Church congregation of Lasswade Strathesk in 1956. After the union the kirk session reverted back to the name of Lasswade. The session of Cockpen and Carrington was linked with Lasswade in 1977. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Dalkeith and later of Lothian. |
