Prior to the reformation the church of Livingston belonged to the Abbey of Holyrood. Ministry of the parish is recorded from 1570 in the person of John Clapperton. Following 1929, when the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church were joined together, Livingston parish church, which had become known as Livingston West, was united with the former United Free Church congregation of Livingston Tulloch in 1954. After the union the kirk session reverted back to the name of Livingston and the former Livingston Tulloch church was sold. Livingston later became known as Livingston Old. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Linlithgow, later of Linlithgow and Falkirk and presently of West Lothian. |
