The parishes of Hutton and Fishwick were united together by the Lords Commissioners in 1614. Hutton church, which was dedicated by Bishop David de Bernham in 1243, was rebuilt in 1765 and the church of Fishwick, which was granted to the monks of St Cuthbert at Durham between 1098 and 1107, was replaced in 1825 by a mortuary chapel. A new church was erected in 1820 to serve as the parish church for the united session. The parish of Paxton was united with Hutton and Fishwick in 1974 to form the session of Hutton and Fishwick and Paxton and a link was later formed in 1978 with Foulden and Mordington. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Chirnside and later of Duns. |
