The area of Shotts, previously known as Bertram Shotts, existed of old as a part of the parish of Bothwell. In 1471 a chapel was built at Shotts by James, Lord Hamilton and it was dedicated to St Catherine. It was not long after the reformation in 1560 that the parish of Shotts was disjoined from Bothwell and erected into an independent parish. The church of Shotts was later rebuilt in 1821. The kirk session of Kirk O'Shotts was formed in 1975 when the Parish church of Shotts united with Shottsburn The kirk session sits within the Presbytery of Hamilton. |
