The church of Petty, which sat within the Presbytery of Inverness, was dedicated to St Columba. Petty was united with the parish of Brachollie in about 1500 but the name of Brachollie was later dropped. Ministry of the parish is recorded from 1580 in the person of James Dunbar. Following 1929, when the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church were joined together, Petty parish church was united with the United Free Church congregation of Petty East in 1934. After the union both churches remained in use. Petty was linked with Arderseir West in 1962 but this linkage was terminated in the following year and Petty was linked instead with the united charge of Arderseir. The parish church was erected in 1776 and later rebuilt between the years of 1836 and 1839. |
