The church of Gordon was dedicated to St Michael by Bishop David de Bernham in 1242 and prior to the reformation it belonged to the Abbey of Kelso. Ministry to the parish is recorded from 1574. The parish boundaries of Gordon were once very extensive however an area of the parish by the name of Durrington-laws was annexed to Longformacus in about 1647, as was a second district which was annexed to form a part of Westruther. Gordon parish church was built in 1763 , however it has since undergone several extensive repairs and was restored in 1897. In 1970 Legerwood and Westruther were linked with Gordon St Michael's and a further linkage followed in 1985 with Greenlaw. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Earlston and later of Duns. |
