Prior to the reformation the church of Lochlee was dedicated to St Drostan. Ministers to the parish are recorded from 1576 in the person of James Fullarton, who also had charge of Edzell, Dunlappie, Lethnot and Navar. Lochlee and the parish of Lethnot were united together in 1618, however the two united parishes were later disjoined again in 1723 by the Commissioners of Teinds. A new parish church was built in Lochlee in 1803 which was subsequently repaired and enlarged in 1824. Tarfside Maule Memorial and Lochlee united in 1932 to form the parish of Glenesk and the parish of Logie-Pert and Strathcaro was linked with Glenesk between the years of 1977 and 1981. In 1982 Edzell Lethnot and Glenesk formed a linkage and Glenesk was further linked in 1997 with Fern Carestoun and Menmuir. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Brechin and later of Brechin and Fordoun, until by Act of AssemblyI, 1961, the Presbytery of Arbroath, the Presbytery of Forfar and the Presbytery of Brechin and Fordoun were united under the name of Angus and Mearns. |
