The parish of Corsock was erected when it was disjoined, partly from Balmaclellan and Parton, which sat within the Presbytery of Kirkcudbright, and partly from Kirkpatrick-Durham, which sat within the presbytery of Dumfries. Corsock was attached by decree of the General Assembly to the Presbytery of Kirkcudbright. Services within Corsock parish took place in the Drumhumphrey school room until the parish church was erected in 1839 and ministry is recorded from the same year in the person of William Corson. In 1863 the parish of Corsock was erected quoad sacra. After the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church in 1929, the former United Free Church of Corsock Murray-Dunlop was united with Corsock Maxwell Parish church in 1931. Following the local union the former Murray-Dunlop church came into use as the parish church in 1947 and the old parish church was sold three years later in 1950. Balmaclellan was linked with Corsock in 1957 however this arrangement was terminated in 1963 in favour of a linkage with Kirkpatrick Durham. The two Parishes were united in 1989 to form Corsock and Kirkpatrick Durham and on the same date the newly united parish was linked with Crossmichael and Parton. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Kirkcubright and later of Dumfries and Kirkcudbright. |
