The parish of Arrochar was disjoined from the parish of Luss in 1659. It had first been proposed to the Presbytery of Dumbarton in 1648 that the parish be disjoined due to the inconvenient situation of Luss Parish Church for those parishioners living in the lands of Arrochar. Following the erection of the parish, a site upon which to construct the parish church was chosen and ministry of the parish is recorded from 1658 in the person of Archibald McLachlan. It was not however until 1733 that a church was finally erected. This first parish church stood until 1847 when it was replaced by the present day building. There also existed within the parish a mission church at Ardlui.Following the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church in 1929, the former United Free Church of Arrochar Ballyhennan was united with Arrochar Parish church, which had come to be referred to as Arrochar Tighness. Following the local union the kirk session was referred to simply as Arrochar. Luss was once more connected to Arrochar in 1986 when the two sessions were linked together. The kirk session sits within the Presbytery of Dumbarton. |
