Gilmorehill Church, Glasgow, originated with Anderston, which was established as a chapel of ease in 1799, with a constitution dating from 1834. The minister and kirk session left the Church of Scotland at the Disruption and eventually settled in a new church at the foot of University Avenue in 1878. They were successively known as Anderston Free, Hillhead Free (from 1892), Hillhead United Free (from 1900) and Gilmorehill Parish Church (from 1929). The parish terminated by dissolution in 1959 and the building was sold to Glasgow University. As a Church of Scotland charge it was in the presbytery of Glasgow and the synod of Clydesdale. |
