The church of Cluny was dedicated to St Machar and in the 13th century it existed as a pendicle of the parish of Kincardine O'Neil. In 1743 a part of the parish of Kinairny was annexed to Cluny. By the later years of the 18th century the church of Cluny had fallen into a state of disrepair and so was demolished to make way for a new church, which was erected in 1789 close to the old churchyard. Following 1929, when the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church were joined together, Cluny parish church was united with the United Free Church congregation of Cluny South in 1933. After the union both churches remained in use. Monymusk was linked with Cluny in 1982. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Kincardine O'Neil, later of Garioch and presently of Gordon. |
