From the reformation, the united parish of Urquhart and Glenmoriston shared one minister and one parish church. The parish church was situated at Kilmore and was rebuilt in 1630. Urquhart and Glenmoriston originally sat within the Presbytery of Abertaff but was transferred to the Presbytery of Inverness in 1884. The two parishes were disjoined in 1891 when Glenmoriston was erected into an independent parish and Urquhart became known as Kilmore due to the situation of it's parish church. Kilmichael and Kilmore were later united in 1946 and the parish once more reverted back to the name of Urquhart. Both churches (of Kilmore and Kilmichael) remained in use following the union. The church of Glenmoriston, which had been erected in 1891, was extensively repaired in 1950-1952. After years of separation, the parish of Glenmoriston and the reformed parish of Urquhart were once more joined when the two congregations were linked in 1980. Twelve years later in 1992 the parishes were united under the formerly used name of Glenmoriston and Urquhart. |
