The ancient parish church of Blair Atholl was dedicated to St Bride. The ruins of the old church still stand and there remains buried in a vault under the old ruin many members of the Duke of Atholl's family. The church of Struan was used as a mission chapel within the parish and it was dedicated to St Fillan. Of old the parish of Struan was often referred to as Struan Robertson. In the early 17th century, sometime prior to 1632, the two parishes, along with Kilmoveonaig and Lude, were united together under the name of Blair Atholl. Following the union, Struan church continued in use as a mission chapel and a new church at Struan was built in 1829. After 1929, when the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church were joined together, Blair Atholl parish church was united with the United Free Church congregation of Blair Atholl St Andrew's in 1934. The session continued under the name of Blair Atholl and Struan. After the union the Blair Atholl, Struan, and also a second mission church, which existed at Tinafour, remained in use. Tenedry was linked with Blair Atholl and Struan early in the 21st century. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Dunkeld and later of Dunkeld and Meigle. |
