The Kirk Session of Stobo was established following the Reformation in 1560. Ministers to the parish are recorded from 1560. The church in Stobo, which is largely Norman in date, was restored in 1863, and again in 1929. Prior to the Reformation it was a prebend of Glasgow and dedicated to St Mungo. Following the establishment of presbyteries by the General Assembly in 1581, the Kirk Session of Stobo became part of the Presbytery of Peebles. In 1976, it became part of the Presbytery of Melrose and Peebles. In recent years, several changes have been made to the parish: in 1951, it was united with Drumelzier; in 1960, it was linked with Tweedsmuir; and in 1977, it was linked with Broughton, Glenholm and Kilbucho with Skirling. |
