In 1876, Blantyre Mission was founded in Nyasaland, Malawi, by Scottish Missionaries and was so called after the birthplace of David Livingstone, who came to Nyasaland in 1859. The main building here is the Church of Scotland Church, a red brick building which is a mixture of Norman and Byzantine styles. On the 14th March 1942 the Presbytery of Blantyre was first established having been called by the General Assembly to meet and be constituted. The presbytery met regularly until 15th April 1959 when the final session was held. From this date onward the Blantyre Presbytery joined with the Church of Central Africa and is now one of the main seats of what is known as the Church of Central Africa Presbyteriant. |
