The church of Chirnside was originally a prebend of the church of Dunbar and also later of Dunglass. The church itself was built in 1150 and has since undergone many changes, including an extensive restoration in 1907. Following the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free church in 1929, the Free Church session of Chirnside North and the parish church congregation, now named Chirnside Old, were united together in 1952. The united session was known as Chirnside. In 1973 Chirnside was linked with Bonkyl and Preston. Chirnside kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Chirnside and later of Duns. |
