Prior to the reformation the church of Crawfordjohn belonged to the Abbey of Kelso and is believed to have been dedicated to St Anne. Ministry here is recorded from 1567 in the person of William Livingston. Crawfordjohn old parish church was united with Abington and Crawfordjohn Logan in 1930 to form the session of Crawfordjohn and Abington, and in 1971 Crawfordjohn Abington was linked with Wiston and Roberton, and Lamington and Wandel, under the name of Duneaton. Duneaton was later united with Crawford in 1994 under the name of Glencaple and a link between Glencaple and Lowther was formed on the same date. The kirk session sits within the Presbytery of Lanark. |
