The church of Dailly, Ayrshire, originally served a medieval parish appropriated to Crossraguel Abbey and then known as Dalmakerran. It had several chapels, one of them on Ailsa Craig. The parish church was transferred from Old Dailly to New Dailly in 1695 and rebuilt in 1766. Until the union of 1929 it was simply Dailly church, but thereafter was briefly Dailly St Machar?s, to distinguish it from the former United Free church, which became Dailly St Columba?s. In 1937 the two were united, once more as Dailly. The charge is in Ayr presbytery and is now linked with Barr. Until the reorganisation of 1929 it was in the synod of Glasgow and Ayr, thereafter in that of Ayr. Synods were abolished in 1993. |
