Prior to the reformation and for a short time after, the church of Crossmichael belonged to the Abbey of Sweetheart however it was annexed to the crown in 1587. Ministry of the parish is recorded from 1588 in the person of James Carruthers. Crossmichael old parish church was rebuilt in 1751. On the 1st December 1961 Parton and Crossmichael were linked and the two parishes were later united in 1989 under the name of Crossmichael and Parton. The united parish was linked in the same year with Corsock and Kirkpatrick Durham. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Kirkcudbright and later of Dumfries and Kirkcudbright. |
