The church of Inverarity was dedicated to St Monan and prior to the reformation it belonged to the Abbey of Lindores. The parishes of Inverarity and Meathie were united in 1612 but the kirk session continued under the name of Inverarity. Kinnettles was linked to Inverarity in 1957 and in the following year the linkage was terminated in favour of a union between the two parishes under the name of Inverarity and Kinnetles. The united parish went on to link with Glamis in 1982 and the congregations were united in 1996 to form the session of Glamis, Inverarity and Kinnettles The kirk session of Inverarity sat within the Presbytery of Forfar until, by Act of Assembly XXXIII 1961, the Presbytery of Arbroath, the Presbytery of Forfar and the Presbytery of Brechin and Fordoun were united under name of Angus and Mearns. |
