The church of Yester was dedicated in 1241 by Bishop de Bernham and in this year was designated the church of Yester. It had been known of old as St Banthan's and in 1451, at the same time that Yester was made a collegiate church, the former name of St Banthan's was resurrected. Following the reformation the church returned to the position of parish church and also reverted back to the name of Yester. In 1708 the church was moved to a new position at Gifford The newly erected parish church was completed in 1710, and later in 1966 and 1970 it underwent restorations. Yester was linked to the parish of Humbie in 1977 and with Bolton and Saltoun in 1979. The charge was later united with Bolton and Saltoun as Yester, Bolton and Saltoun Parish Church in 2015. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Haddington, later of Haddington and Dunbar and presently of Lothian. |
