The parishes of Wiston and Roberton were united in 1772. The vicarage of Wiston had previously belonged to the priory of Lesmahagow and it's church was dedicated to St Ninian. Following the union of Wiston and Roberton the church of Wiston was enlarged and served as the place of worship for the united parish however there was a relief chapel built at Roberton at the beginning of the 19th century. The charge of Roberton West was united with Wiston and Roberton in 1938, following the union, both the Wiston church and the Roberton West church remained in use. In 1971 the parish of Duneaton was formed by the union of Wiston and Roberton with Crawfordjohn and Abington and Lamington and Wandel. Duneaton was later united with Crawford in 1994 under the name of Glencaple and a link between Glencaple and Lowther was formed on the same date.
