The church at Whitburn, which originally sat within the parish of Linlithgow, was opened for public worship in 1718 and in 1731 the parish was disjoined and officially erected into an independent parish by the Commissioner of Teinds. Ministry is recorded here from 1782 in the person of Alexander Wardrobe. After the establishment of The United Free Church of Whitburn Brucefield the parish church became known as Whitburn South. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Linlithgow, later of Bathgate (the name of the Presbytery of Bathgate was changed in 1964 by the General Assembly to the Presbytery of Livingston and Bathgate) and presently of West Lothian. |
