Prior to 1646 West Calder formed a part of the parish of Mid-Calder. The kirk session of West Calder was erected in 1647 when it was disjoined from the parish by the commissioner for the plantation of kirks. West Calder, which became known as West Kirk of Calder, was linked with Addiewell in 1965, this link was however terminated in 1985. West Kirk of Calder was later linked with Polbeth Harwood. The kirk session originally sat within the Presbytery of Linlithgow but was annexed to the Presbytery of Edinburgh in 1884, it presently sits within the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of West Lothian. |
