Uphall, which was anciently known as Strathbrock, existed originally as a prebend belonging to the Provostry of Kirkheugh, and the church was dedicated to St Nicholas. The church, which is thought to date back to pre-reformation times, was restored in 1937-1938. In 1976 Uphall once again became known as Strathbrock when the union of Ecclesmachan and Uphall (North) formed the parish of that name. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Linlithgow and later of Bathgate, (Bathgate's name was changed by the General Assembly of 1964 to Livingston and Bathgate), and formerly the Synod of Lothian and Tweedale. |
