The parish of Udny originally existed within the jurisdiction of the kirk session of Ellon. In 1597 however, by Act of Parliament, the Udny was disjoined from Ellon and erected as a separate parish. The parishioners of Udny had prior to 1597 worshipped in the chapel of the Holy Trinity of Ellon but in 1605 a parish church of Udny was erected, which stood until 1821 when it was replaced with a new building. Udny Free Church was organised as a congregation soon after the Disruption and a church was built in the same year (replaced on another site, 1864). It passed successively to the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, in the latter case as Pitmedden, which united with Udny as Udny and Pitmedden in 1931. The UFC charge was in the presbytery and synod of Aberdeen. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Ellon and later of Aberdeen. |
