The church of Tyninghame was dedicated to St Baldred and prior to the reformation belonged to St Mary's College, St Andrews. Tyninghame parish was united in 1761 with Whitekirk, under the name of Whitekirk and Tyninghame. The old Parish church dates back to the 12th century and had remained in use right up to the union with Whitekirk, when the church of Whitekirk became the serving church for the united parish. Ruins of St Baldred's Church can still be seen in the grounds of Tyninghame House. Whitekirk and Tyninghame was linked in 1970 with Dunbar, however this arrangement was terminated 1974 in favour of a linkage with Athelstaneford. The kirk session sat with in the Presbytery of Dunbar and later of Haddington and Dunbar. |
