The church of Tough was dedicated to the Nine Maidens of St Donald and ministry here is recorded from 1558 in the person of Robert Carnegie. In 1832 the parishes of Tough and Keig were united by the Commissioners of Teind, this union however did not last and was severed again on the 5th February 1834. Keig and Tough were joined once more when they were linked together in 1958 but again the linkage was not to last and was severed in 1977 in favour of a link between Tough, Leochel-Cushnie and Lynturk. The kirk session of Tough was situated initially in the Presbytery of Alford, until by Act of Assembly XXII, 1962, the Presbytery of Deeside and the Presbytery of Alford were united under the name of Presbytery of Deeside and Alford. It presently lies within the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Gordon and is named Cushnie and Tough. |
