The church of Tarland was dedicated to St Mathulach and the church of Migvie to St Finan, both, prior to the reformation, belonged to the Priory of St Andrews. The two parishes were united in the early 17th century but post union both retained a separate parish church. In 1940, following the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church, Tarland and Migvie was united with the United Free congregation of Tarland South. Five years later in 1945 the Migvie section of the united parish of Tarland and Migvie was joined with the charge of Logie-Coldstone and Cromar, leaving the former kirk session of Tarland and Migvie under the name of Tarland. Tarland was linked with Coull in 1951, this link was however terminated in 1975 in favour of union with Coull under the name of Coull and Tarland. Logie-Coldstone and Migvie linked with Dinnet in 1954 and 30 years later in 1984 the parishes of Coull and Tarland and Logie-Coldstone and Migvie were united under the name of Cromar. The kirk session sat with the Presbytery of Kincardine O'Neil and later of Kincardine and Deeside. |
