The parishes of Swinton and Simprim were united in 1761, after which time the church of Swinton became the serving church of the united parish. Swinton church, which had originally been dedicated to St Mary, underwent alterations, firstly in 1792 to accommodate a rapidly increasing parish population, and again in 1800. The church was largely rebuilt in 1909. The united parish of Swinton and Simprim later dropped Simprim from it's name and the parish church congregation of Swinton was linked in 1932 with the United Free Church Session of Swinton West. In 1967 Fogo was linked with Swinton and the two parishes later united on the 13th June 1976 under the name Fogo and Swinton. Leitholm was linked with the parish on the same date and in 1978 additional links were formed with Ladykirk and Whitsome. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Chirnside and later of Duns. |
