The parish of Strichen was erected in 1627 when it was disjoined from Rathen and Fraserburgh, and an Act of Parliament of 1633 later ratified and approved the disjunction of the lands for the purpose of erecting the parish. There had been a chapel built at Strichen in 1620 by Thomas Fraser of Strichen which served as the parish church until 1799 when, due to having fallen into a state of considerable disrepair, it had to be demolished to make way for a new church building. Strichen parish church was later united with the Strichen Free Church congregation in 1933, both churches remained in use after the union. Tyrie and Strichen were later linked in 1995. The kirk session sat with in the Presbytery of Deer and later of Buchan. |
