The church of Strachur was known of old as Kilmoghlas and was dedicated to St Glastian. In 1651 the Commission for the Plantation of Kirks united Strachur with the parish of Strathlachlan, under the name of Strachur and Strathlachlan. Ministry is recorded from 1651 in the person of Alexander Mclaine. In 1937 Strachur and Strathlachlan United with the United Free Church Congregation of Strachur and Strathlachlan West, following the union both the church and name of Strachur and Strathlachlan remained in use. The present day church of Strachur was built in 1789. The united kirk session sits within the Presbytery of Dunoon and formerly the Synod of Argyle. |
