The old parish church of St Ninians occupies a site which has been in continual ecclesiastical use since the middle of the 12th century. The church was originally the parish church of Eccles. In 1746 all of the church building except for the tower was destroyed in an explosion. A new building was completed in 1751 which was added to and renovated in the 19th and 20th centuries. In the 20th century the church became known as Stirling St Ninians Old to distinguish it from St Ninians St George's. |
