Sprouston was at one time united with the Parish of Lempitlaw, although the date of the unification remains unknown. The church of Sprouston, which was dedicated to St Michael, was granted by King David I to the Abbey of Kelso in the 12th century. In 1781 the church was rebuilt on the old site. In 1962 Linton and Sprouston were linked, however this arrangement was terminated in 1974 in favour of a link between Sprouston and Kelso St John's Edenside and Ednam. Later in 1988 the parishes of Kelso Old and Sprouston were united to form Kelso Old and Sprouston. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Kelso, later of Jedburgh and Kelso and currently of Jedburgh. |
