The pre-Reformation church was dedicated to St Marnoch and was appropriated to the Collegiate Church of the Kirk Heugh at St Andrew's. Ministry began in 1563 in the person of William Elder, reader. Before 1929 the session was within the jurisdiction of Fordoun Presbytery after which time it was within the jurisdiction of Brechin and Fordoun Presbytery. From at least 1955 the session was within the jurisdiction of Angus and Mearns Presbytery. Benholme kirk session united with Johnshaven Kirk Session in 1947 to form Benholme and Johnshaven Kirk Session, both churches continued to be used and Benholme manse was reconstructed in 1951. In 1998 the parishes of Benholme and Johnshaven united with Garvock St Cyrus to form Mearns Coastal Parish in the Presbytery of Kincardine. |
