The Kirk Session of Skirling was established following the Reformation in 1560. Ministers to the parish are recorded from 1565. Following the establishment of presbyteries by the General Assembly in 1581, the Kirk Session of Skirling became part of the Presbytery of Peebles. In 1644, however, it became part of the Presbytery of Biggar. With the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church of Scotland, in 1929, Skirling became part of the Presbytery of Lanark, and in 1967, it once again became part of the Presbytery of Peebles. At that time, it was also linked with Broughton, Glenholm and Kilbucho. In 1976, it became part of the Presbytery of Melrose and Peebles. |
