Prior to the reformation the church of Saltoun was dedicated to St Michael and belonged to the Abbey of Dryburgh. Ministry here is recorded from 1568 in the person of Andrew Simson. In 1633, on the temporary establishment of Episcopacy, the church of Saltoun and its ecclesiastical rights, were transferred to the Bishopric of Edinburgh. The date of erection of the church of Saltoun remains unknown however it is recorded that the building underwent considerable repairs in 1805. The two parishes of Bolton and Saltoun were united in 1928 and the united parish was later linked with Humbie and Yester in 1979. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Haddington later Haddington and Dunbar and presently of Lothian. |
