The medieval church was dedicated to initially St. Neachtan, folowed by St Columba. The church was appropriated to the Abbey of Arbroath and was also a prebend of Aberdeen. Ministry began within the session in 1563 with Gilbert Kelso serving as reader. Up until 1976 the session was within the jurisdiction of Aberdeen Presbytery, after which time it was under the jurisdiction of Gordon Presbytery. On 15 February 1953 the session united with the United Free Church congregation of Belhelvie. |
