The church of St Quivox, Ayrshire, originally served a medieval parish appropriated first to a Gilbertine priory at Dalmulin, in the parish itself, later to Paisley Abbey. It was then known as Sanchar, or Sanchar-in-Kyle, but later was usually referred to by its dedication as St Kevoc?s, corrupted to St Quivox. The church building was repaired in 1767. In 1981 the congregation united with that of Ayr Lochside to form Ayr St Quivox. The charge is in Ayr presbytery, and until the reorganisation of 1929 was in the synod of Glasgow and Ayr, thereafter in that of Ayr. |
