The church of Rerrick (or Rerwick) was dedicated to St Glastian and belonged to the Abbey of Dundrennan, a result of which meant that the parish was originally referred to as Dundrennan. The Abbey Church existed at one time as the church not only of the Monks but also of the Parishioners and post-reformation it is thought that part of the Abbey building was converted into the parish church. In 1743 the old church was enlarged and remained in use until it was demolished in 1865 to make way for the present church. Rerrick was linked with Auchencairn in 1964 and the linkage remained until the two charges were united in 1991 under the name of Auchincairn and Rerrick. The united parish was linked with Buittle and Kelton in the same year. The kirk session of Rerrick sat in the presbytery of Kirkcudbright, later Dumfries and Kirkcudbright. |
