The church in the pre-reformation parish of Ratho was dedicated to St Mary by David de Bernham, Bishop of St Andrews in 1243. It is believed that a Celtic place of worship existed here. In 1444 Ratho was annexed to the Collegiate church of Corstorphine and remained so until 1690 when is was once more erected as an independent parish. Ministry at Ratho is recorded from 1562 in the person of David Wemis. Ratho was linked with Wilkieston in 1945 and the two session later united in 1969, under the name of Ratho. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Edinburgh. |
